"Lost Child" by Ty Xiong. Requiem for the lives we've lost.

Composed in 2019. Premiered Feb 27, 2020. Performed by UNCG Sinfonia and Ty Xiong on Steinway grand piano.
"Lost Child" was written in response of political crisis of public mass shootings within the last decade from Sandy Hooks tragedy, Las Vegas shooting, Fresno, CA shooting in the Hmong community, Charleston, SC church shooting, UNCC Shooting, New Zealand Mosque shooting, Paris attack, and etc. The list sadly goes on.

The subtitle is also a Requiem to the lives we've lost. As an educator, it is unbearable when you have students who are around age 8 and they tell me about shootings and are scared to go to school. No child that young should be discussing that kind of disaster. No matter of personal cultural/national identity, age, education, social class, we are all affected by this.
